Industrial Gas Applications in Petrochemical Industry: Safety, Efficiency and Production Upgrade

Industrial gases are essential process and safety media for the entire petrochemical industry, including crude oil refining, fine chemical processing, and oil and gas storage. High-purity nitrogen, oxygen, hydrogen, and carbon dioxide run through core production links such as crude oil extraction, catalytic cracking, chemical synthesis, tank storage, and environmental treatment. They directly determine the production safety, product quality, and energy consumption of petrochemical enterprises. As the petrochemical industry upgrades toward low carbonization, refinement and intelligence, industrial gas centralized supply systems have become standard facilities for modern refining and chemical plants.

High-purity hydrogen is a core process gas for petrochemical product upgrading. It is widely used in hydrocracking, hydrofining, and oil desulfurization and denitrification processes. In heavy oil processing, hydrogen breaks down macromolecular hydrocarbon structures, converting heavy crude oil into high-value light oil products such as gasoline and diesel. Meanwhile, it effectively removes sulfur and nitrogen impurities from oil products, reducing sulfur emissions and enabling refined oil to meet international high-standard clean fuel requirements, which is indispensable for high-quality petrochemical production.

High-purity nitrogen is a necessary safety protection gas for petrochemical plants. With stable chemical properties, it is applied to inert purging, replacement, and airtight protection for reactors, distillation towers, and process pipelines. It isolates air contact, avoiding oxidation, combustion and explosion risks in chemical reactions. In addition, nitrogen blanketing technology is commonly used for crude oil and chemical storage tanks to suppress oil and gas volatilization, prevent material deterioration, and eliminate flammable and hidden dangers, ensuring long-term safe operation of tank farms.

Industrial oxygen is mainly used for oxygen-enriched combustion in catalytic cracking, oil and gas gasification reactions, and factory sewage treatment. Oxygen-enriched combustion significantly improves the combustion efficiency of refining furnaces, increases the yield of light oil products, and reduces fuel consumption and operating costs. In environmental protection processes, oxygen strengthens the oxidative degradation of organic pollutants in sewage, helping petrochemical factories meet strict global environmental discharge standards.

Liquid carbon dioxide is widely used in chemical synthesis, carbon capture (CCUS), and inert fire suppression for industrial equipment. It perfectly matches the green and low-carbon transformation development trend of the modern petrochemical industry.

Traditional cylinder gas supply cannot meet the continuous production demands of petrochemical industries due to unstable pressure, frequent cylinder replacement and fluctuating gas purity. At present, most large petrochemical parks adopt cryogenic liquid gas tank centralized supply solutions for liquid nitrogen, liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen. The system provides 24-hour constant-pressure stable gas supply with controllable purity and extremely low evaporation loss. It not only ensures precise and consistent production processes, but also reduces manual operation and maintenance costs, becoming the optimal solution for safe, efficient and low-cost operation of petrochemical factories.
