Material Selection, Installation Standards & Safety Guidelines

Cryogenic tank gas pipelines are critical connecting components that link cryogenic storage tanks, vaporizers, and factory terminal gas supply systems for liquid nitrogen, liquid oxygen, liquid argon, and food-grade CO2. The stability of the entire industrial gas supply system largely depends on pipeline materials, welding quality, and thermal insulation performance. Many factories prioritize tanks and vaporizers but adopt low-grade common pipes for layout, resulting in frosting, premature gasification, pressure leakage and frequent system failures, which disrupt production and cause potential safety risks.

Ordinary galvanized steel pipes are not applicable for cryogenic gas transmission. Industrial standards strictly require 304 or 316L stainless steel seamless pipes, which feature excellent toughness and low-temperature brittleness resistance. Specifically, all liquid oxygen pipelines and fittings must undergo professional oil-free degreasing treatment to eliminate combustion risks caused by grease contact with pure oxygen. Liquid nitrogen, liquid argon and carbon dioxide pipelines can follow standard stainless steel construction specifications. The pipe diameter should be matched according to peak gas consumption to avoid pressure drop from undersized pipes or unnecessary cost waste from oversized pipelines.

Thermal insulation is a decisive yet easily overlooked step. All cryogenic gas pipelines must be wrapped with thick polyurethane insulation layers and protected by external galvanized iron sheets. Insufficient or missing insulation leads to heavy surface frosting, massive cold loss and premature liquid gas vaporization, causing sharp internal pressure spikes and frequent safety valve tripping. Outdoor pipelines require additional waterproof and sun-proof treatment to prevent insulation layer cracking and performance failure.

Cryogenic pipeline installation follows strict special equipment standards. All joints adopt full argon arc welding, with 100% non-destructive weld testing to eliminate air holes and cracks. Pipelines are laid with a reasonable slope to prevent liquid backflow and tank impact. Equipped with segmented filters, check valves, emergency cut-off valves and drain valves, the system facilitates daily maintenance and pressure relief.

Cost-cutting practices such as thin-walled inferior pipes, omitted degreasing processes and reduced insulation thickness will lead to frequent repairs and excessive gas loss in the long run. Regular inspection of pipeline frosting damage and annual maintenance of insulation and valve seals are essential for stable operation.

We provide one-stop customized cryogenic gas pipeline services, including oil-free degreasing, welding inspection, thermal insulation construction and installation. Our fully compliant pipeline solutions ensure long-term safe and stable gas supply for global industrial production lines.
